    DAY 2

Tamborine Mountain offers many opportunities for visitors to explore and enjoy the scenic natural surrounds. Following breakfast at your accommodation, be ready for our guide to collect you from your accommodation at 10am.

Our first destination takes us to Queensland’s first National Park, “Witches Falls”. Zigzagging down the mountain side we pass through an open forest of banksia trees and into rainforest with giant strangler figs.

The national park is home to seasonal lagoons surrounded by piccabeen palm groves. During the wet season, rain fills the lagoons with water, and they spring to life with a variety of insect and frog species. We will journey to Witches Falls waterfall and the waterfall viewing platform. Our return walk will take approximately 1.5 hours to complete.

Next, we stop by Mountain Brew Café to recoup over coffee and cake before we continue our orientation around the main sections of the mountain.

For lunch we head to Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens, described as 'The Jewel in the Crown of the Scenic Rim'. We take time to relax over lunch and enjoy the colourful and diverse range of exotic and native flora before taking time to enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the lake.

Framed with tree ferns, Japanese windflowers and many colours of iris reflecting in the water, the lake is a haven for water birds, fish, frogs and is crossed by the beautiful old stone bridge which was built many years ago. You will have time to wander and discover the gardens at your leisure.

The Scenic Rim is an exciting destination with an abundance of fresh, locally made or grown seasonal ingredients and produce. With its fertile red volcanic soil and high rainfall, the Plateau of Tamborine Mountain produces rich crops of avocado, kiwifruit, avocado, rhubarb and coffee.

So it’s only fitting that we discover Merrinee Farm, home to a third generation avocado orchid. With the nation’s obsession with avocado, and consumption in Australia at time high, we go behind the scenes to hear about the process behind growing the fruit and getting it to store.

The property not only produces hundreds of tonnes of fruit from some 1000 trees, it is has the main packing house for most of the mountain’s commercial producers. The state of the art equipment in the packing shed has the ability to grade, size and count the 1600 pieces of fruit per minute to an accuracy of one gram, giving the operation the capacity of thousands of tonnes per year.

Of course just like all our fabulous fresh produce, avocados are seasonal too! Sometimes it just doesn't work to take you to Merrinee Farm. Don’t fret, when that happens we will take you to one of our other green thumbed producers such as Di Brauer's home kitchen farm.

Di is the driving force behind the famous Green Shed, which is open every Sunday to supply both residents and visitors with their fresh fruit and vegie supplies. Or perhaps it will be Bernie’s Farm. Bernie is probably best known for his rhubarb and the fantastic selection from his roadside stall.

Whatever the day holds, you will discover the diversity of produce that our rich volcanic soil and mild temperatures make Tamborine Mountain a great source of fresh farm treats and you can check out our Harvest Trail Map Guide to discover just a few of our favourite roadside stalls!

Our final destination for the afternoon, is Witches Falls Winery, where their passion is wine – they love growing it, making it, drinking it, and matching it with all kinds of foods but most of all, they like sharing it with friends.

They produce three distinctive ranges of wines: Granite Belt, Wild Ferment and Prophecy, each providing a unique look at different styles and practices in both viticulture and winemaking. We will have the opportunity to taste across their wine range while taking in all the winery action through the large glass windows behind the tasting counter.

    Evening
The evening is at your leisure. Your Hosts will have great dining suggestions. Dine in or visit one of the Mountain Restaurants offering a diverse
    range of cuisines.

Meal inclusions: breakfast, morning tea, light lunch, wine tasting

    DAY 3

Your morning starts with a delightful breakfast at your accommodation.

After breakfast, your guide will collect you from your accommodation at 10am. Today is a full day, as we meander along country roads via Canungra and up the mountainside to deliver you to the first destination; the lush, green pastures of the hilltop oasis of Beechmont.

This quaint country village, sitting between the Lamington Plateau and Tamborine Mountain, is home to David Groom a contemporary Australian landscape artist inspired by the mountains and valleys that surround him. We stop by his studio located on the edge of Lamington National Park, and indulge in some morning tea whilst admiring his work.

The philosophy of David’s work is simple, spending time observing the changing moods of the landscape and portraying this through his drawings and paintings. Rather than working outdoors, he works from memory, often creating a series of study drawings prior to creating larger oil paintings. He likes the idea of combining different viewpoints and working more with the textures, patterns and atmosphere rather than a literal interpretation of the environment.

With the Binna Burra section of Lamington National Park right on David’s door step, we take the opportunity to stretch our legs and head off for a walk through the lush rainforest and ancient trees.

Once we have worked up an appetite, we head over to the Flying Bean Café for a late lunch. Located opposite the breathtaking Rosins Lookout, the destination offers views of mountain ranges along the Queensland and New South Wales borders.

After lunch, we commence our journey back towards Tamborine Mountain, stopping at O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards for a wine tasting and afternoon stroll through their extensive grounds.

Destinations: David Groom Studio, Binna Burra Canungra Valley Vineyard

What is Experience Tamborine Mountain all about?

Experience Tamborine Mountain is an eclectic collection of like-minded businesses that share a passion for the cool, sub-tropical rainforest paradise that lies near Queensland’s capital, Brisbane and behind the Gold Coast.

Using our specialist local knowledge and connections, we’ve carefully curated a varied menu of activities and experiences that will appeal to visitors’ diversity, tastes and aspirations. And, because one size does not necessarily fit all, we recognise the importance of also crafting tailored experiences for special interest individuals or groups.

The best takeaway from travelling is the stories you’ll have and the abiding memories of simple pleasures, of unplanned serendipitous moments, encounters with locals, and even life-altering learning.  We believe in the importance of sharing the little things with our visitors as well as the big ticket moments and look forward to helping you discover them so you’ll have your own stories to tell.

Tamborine Mountain – what to do and where to stay?

Mountain destinations translate to achingly beautiful scenery and views, crisp, clean air, a plethora of local wildlife and pristine forest, and Tamborine Mountain is no exception. Against this glorious backdrop exists a diverse and colourful cottage industry with numerous local artists and craftspeople, a variety of natural and man-made attractions, award-winning wineries, a vibrant cafe and restaurant scene, soft adventure for the thrill-seekers, festivals, special events and country markets.

These are all supported by a host of accommodation options including generous country homes that suit extended family or corporate groups, warm and welcoming B & Bs and intimate couples’ cottages.

What can Experience Tamborine Mountain offer you?

To truly experience and participate in the essence of this special place can be intimate, personal, challenging, exhilarating and even life-affirming. We can show you the main spots to take the pretty pictures, but more importantly, we can help you explore our back streets where you will create a personal connection with our mountain that will continue to touch you long after you leave.

Sometimes the simplest moments during a trip away can provide the greatest memories and experiences – it could be the taste of a new dish, lovingly prepared by a passionate champion of  regional produce; an encounter with a knowledgeable, generous winemaker who loves to share a yarn ; laughing with family as you play a board game at a sprawling farmhouse dining table; the sound of birdsong as you light a fire before breakfast; or simply slowing down and being in the moment, exploring the beauty of an ancient rainforest.
